How to choose a plant based protein powder

Every plant based protein powder on this page is 100% vegan - the differences come in the exact protein sources used, the protein content per serving and added active ingredients (such vitamins and minerals).

  •  Vegan Protein 360 is our flagship vegan protein powder, containing a blend of plant protein sources in one shake - ensuring a complete amino acid profile. Vegan Protein 360 comes in three innovation levels: Vegan Protein 360 - BLACK with 22g protein, Vegan Protein 360 - GOLD with 26g protein and Vegan Protein 360 - PLATINUM with up to 29g protein and added vitamins & minerals.

  • Vegan Pea Protein contains a single source of pea protein, providing 24g per serving.

  • Soy Protein is a 90% isolate, containing up to 27g per serving. Soy is actually one of the complete protein sources in the plant-based world.

Vegan Protein - Is Plant Protein Good Enough?

Yes. Plant protein can absolutely meet your needs, provided you get enough in your diet through multiple sources. Many plant-based protein sources are incomplete - meaning that they do not contain all the essential amino acids.

Compare this to whey protein, which is a complete protein source, and you can see why this question is commonly asked. However, by eating a varied diet or using a vegan protein shake with a blend of sources, you can fill the gaps easily.

For example, pea protein is low in the amino acid methionine, but if you pair it with brown rice protein which is especially high in methionine, you’re not missing out on anything.

This is the logic applied to our Vegan Protein 360 blends.

Protein for Vegetarians - is Vegan Protein Powder Right for You?

Most whey protein powder is suitable for vegetarians, so why choose plant-based? Vegetarian, vegan protein customers usually have two reasons:

  • Plant-based by choice. You’d rather skip dairy entirely for ethical, environmental or personal reasons.

  • Dairy-free by necessity. You’re lactose intolerant, or whey just doesn’t agree with you.

Regardless of the reasoning, our vegan protein range is perfect for vegetarians who aren’t looking for whey.

Frequently Asked Questions

Vegan protein powder is derived entirely from plant-based sources. Common ingredients include pea protein, brown rice protein, hemp, soy, and pumpkin seed. Many vegan protein powders use a blend of these sources to improve the overall amino acid profile and nutritional completeness. All ingredients are free from animal-derived products, making them suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

Not all vegan proteins are complete proteins on their own. A complete protein contains all nine essential amino acids in sufficient quantities. Soy is one of the few plant sources that qualifies as complete. Most vegan protein powders address this by blending multiple plant sources - such as pea and rice - which together provide a full amino acid profile comparable to animal-based proteins like whey protein.

Yes, when consumed in equivalent amounts. Research suggests that high-quality vegan protein blends produce similar effects to whey protein, as long as the leucine content is matched. Whey is naturally higher in this amino acid, but a well-formulated vegan blend can close this gap. Total daily protein intake matters more than the source.

No. Vegan protein powder is suitable for anyone regardless of diet. Many people choose plant-based protein to reduce dairy intake, manage digestive sensitivities, or simply add variety to their supplement routine. It's also a practical option for those who are lactose intolerant or allergic to whey.

Most vegan protein powders provide between 20 - 30g of protein per serving, broadly comparable to whey-based alternatives.  Our Vegan Protein 360 range provides multiple levels of protein content depending on your personal preferences, with the BLACK Innovation providing 22g protein, GOLD Innovation 26g and PLATINUM Innovation providing a huge 29g protein per serving.

Some people experience mild bloating when switching to plant-based protein, particularly with pea or soy-based formulas. This is usually temporary as the digestive system adjusts. Choosing a blend with added digestive enzymes (Like our Vegan Protein 360 GOLD and PLATINUM innovations) can help reduce discomfort. Overall, many people with dairy sensitivities actually find vegan protein easier to digest than whey concentrate.

It shouldn't. Chalkiness usually comes from lower-quality single-source proteins or too little liquid. Use cold liquid, a shaker with a mixing ball or a blender, and give your shake 30 seconds to settle. It makes a big difference, and it's why our vegan range keeps picking up taste awards

Not on its own. Vegan protein powder tops up your protein but doesn't carry the carbs, fats, fibre, vitamins and minerals of a full meal. If you want a shake to replace a meal, choose a nutritionally complete one like our vegan meal replacements instead.

Yes. Our vegan range has won multiple industry awards across several years - including Women's Health, Runner's World, Health & Wellbeing and the Vegan Food & Living Awards. There's a reason that thousands trust us with their vegan nutrition!
